Our publishing standard

Editorial policy

Our job is to help a traveller make a better decision. Revenue, rankings and attractive language never justify an unsupported recommendation.

Editorial purpose

Mombasa Rentals publishes practical guides about Mombasa, Diani, Kilifi, Watamu, Malindi, Lamu and the wider Kenyan coast. Each page should answer a distinct travel-planning question, explain meaningful tradeoffs and remain useful even when the reader does not click a commercial link.

The website is operated by NLS Safaris, but articles are published under the Mombasa Rentals Editorial Team name. The site does not claim to be Booking.com, Viator, a hotel or a direct reservation service.

Who creates the guides

Members of our editorial team grew up on the Kenyan coast, have worked as tour guides and have personally visited many of the places we cover. We combine that destination knowledge with current documentary research.

We do not turn general familiarity into a false visit claim. If a specific hotel, restaurant, tour or attraction was not personally assessed by the writer, the article must not imply otherwise. A place can still be included when its relevance is supported by reliable research and the limitation is clear.

Our research hierarchy

We choose the source that is best suited to the claim:

  • government departments and official authorities for entry requirements, laws, protected-area rules and public fees;
  • official rail, airport, airline and transport sources for published schedules, baggage rules and station information;
  • the relevant property, restaurant or activity operator for its facilities, policies, menu, room types and operating arrangements;
  • reputable maps and geographic sources for location and route checks;
  • booking platforms for bookable inventory, displayed rates and permitted verified feedback, not for national regulations;
  • independent travellers, journalists and creators for lived details that official pages may not explain.

A competing article can reveal a question we missed, but it is not treated as the final source for a fact. Before substantial guides are published or materially refreshed, we review the first ten relevant organic search results, identify important omissions and verify useful leads independently. We do not copy another publisher’s wording, structure or conclusions.

First-hand experience and visitor reports

First-hand experience is valuable when it is specific, relevant and genuinely held by the writer. It does not override a changed price, policy or operating condition.

When recent traveller discussions help explain comfort, noise, pacing, service consistency or a disputed preference, we may quote briefly or paraphrase them. We identify the platform and context, link to the source where practical and separate anecdotal observations from verified facts. We do not copy platform star ratings into our own rating or schema.

Recommendations and “best” guides

No hotel, tour, restaurant or destination is best for every traveller. When we use terms such as “best”, we define the selection criteria and the traveller the recommendation is intended to help. Criteria may include area, access, room configuration, atmosphere, family suitability, mobility, privacy, season, cancellation terms and value within a defined category.

We describe limitations as well as strengths. If evidence does not support a ranked list, we organise options by location, traveller type or trip style instead.

Prices, schedules and changing information

Prices can change by travel date, residency, group size, room type, meal plan, seat class and cancellation terms. Whenever a price is useful, we state its currency, unit and important conditions. Indicative ranges are labelled as such, and readers are directed to confirm live prices before paying.

Research dates for volatile facts are kept in our private editorial records. We publish a date only when it materially helps the reader. We do not add bulky verification notices that make an otherwise evergreen guide appear obsolete.

Commercial independence

Mombasa Rentals may earn from affiliate links and display advertising. A commission does not purchase inclusion, a favourable description or a ranking. Commercial links must be clearly identifiable and should appear only when they answer a natural next question.

Affiliate platforms do not write, approve or endorse our guides unless a page expressly and accurately says otherwise. Sponsored material, if introduced, will be labelled prominently and will not be presented as independent editorial work. See the affiliate disclosure and advertising policy.

Images, quotations and intellectual property

We use our own material, appropriately licensed media or assets we are authorised to publish. A generic image is not labelled as a specific property or attraction without evidence. Quotations remain short, accurate and connected to their original context.

Review, corrections and updates

Articles are reviewed for factual support, search intent, internal-link conflicts, commercial disclosure, image rights and readability before publication. Pages containing volatile information are revisited as priorities and resources allow.

Readers, operators and public bodies can report an error. We review the evidence and correct substantiated inaccuracies. Material corrections may be explained on the page when that context helps readers. Minor spelling, formatting and clarity changes may be made without a separate notice. See our corrections policy or send a correction.
