Privacy policy

Scope

This policy applies to mombasarentals.com and communications sent directly to the Mombasa Rentals editorial team. It does not govern a hotel, activity provider, booking platform, advertiser or other external website reached through a link. Those organisations publish their own privacy terms.

Information we may process

Technical and usage information

When the site is visited, the hosting service, security tools and analytics or advertising services may receive technical information such as an IP address, browser and device type, operating system, requested page, referring page, date and time, approximate location, cookie identifiers and interaction data.

Namecheap hosts the WordPress website and may process server logs and other technical data needed to deliver and protect it. Google Analytics is intended to help us understand aggregate use of the site. Google AdSense is intended to deliver, measure and protect advertising.

Information sent by email

We do not operate a website contact form, newsletter, reader-comment system or user account. If you contact us by email, we receive the address you use, the message, attachments and any other information you choose to provide. Do not send passport details, payment-card information, health records or other unnecessary sensitive information.

Affiliate referral information

When you follow an affiliate link to Booking.com, Viator or another partner, the link may include a referral identifier. The partner may use cookies or similar technology to attribute a later transaction. Mombasa Rentals may receive a transaction reference, commission status and limited booking-related reporting from the partner, but we do not take your payment or manage the reservation.

• to deliver, secure and troubleshoot the website;

• to attribute affiliate referrals and prevent fraud;
• to answer emails, investigate corrections and handle privacy requests;

Legal grounds

Depending on the information and the law that applies, processing may be based on consent, a legitimate interest in operating and improving the website, steps requested by a person who contacts us, or compliance with a legal obligation. Where consent is required for non-essential cookies or personalised advertising, the relevant technology should not be activated until the required choice has been obtained.

Who may receive information

Information may be processed by service providers that help operate the website, email, analytics, security and advertising. These may include Namecheap, Google and the relevant affiliate platform after a referral link is used. Information may also be disclosed to professional advisers, regulators or authorities when reasonably necessary and permitted or required by law.

Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services. Booking and activity partners control the information collected on their own sites.

International processing

Some providers operate from or store information in countries outside Kenya. Privacy protections can differ between countries. Where required, we and our providers should use an appropriate legal mechanism or safeguard for an international transfer.

Retention

We keep information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose described, to maintain necessary records, resolve disputes, prevent abuse or meet a legal requirement. Technical logs, analytics records, advertising data and affiliate reports follow the retention settings and policies of the relevant service. Email correspondence may be kept while the enquiry or correction remains useful and then deleted or archived according to operational and legal needs.

Your choices and rights

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to be informed, access personal data, ask for inaccurate data to be corrected, request deletion, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Send a request to hello@mombasarentals.com. Explain the request and the interaction concerned. We may ask for proportionate information to verify identity and protect another person’s data. You may also have the right to complain to a relevant data-protection authority. In Kenya, this is the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

Security

We use reasonable organisational and technical measures intended to protect information. No email, website or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, so visitors should send only the information needed for their request.

Children

Mombasa Rentals is a general travel-planning website and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly request personal information from children through accounts, comments, newsletters or direct booking services because those features are not offered.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the website, providers or legal requirements change. The current version will be published on this page. A material change may also be highlighted elsewhere on the site when appropriate.
